How a page here gets written, checked and kept current, and what we refuse to publish.

Every fact names its source

Figures, version numbers, requirements and dates come from the maker's own documentation, release notes or specification pages. The source is linked from the sentence or the table row it supports, not collected in a list at the bottom, so you can check a single claim without hunting for it.

Where the maker does not state something, the page says "not stated". We would rather leave a gap visible than fill it with a plausible number.

Every fact names its release

This is the part most sources skip. Home server software changes between releases, so "Proxmox needs 2GB of RAM" is only useful with a version attached. Every page on this site carries the release it was checked against and the date of that check. If you are on a different release, treat the page as a starting point and follow the link to the maker.

Where sources disagree

We show both figures and say which we think is right and why. We do not average two numbers into a third that nobody published.

What we do not claim

• No hands-on testing. We do not run benchmarks or review hardware. Where a performance figure appears, it is someone else's measurement and is credited as such.
• No invented authors. There are no fake bylines or made-up credentials here. The site is published by a small independent team and does not pretend otherwise.
• No borrowed images. Photographs are licensed stock or drawn by us. We do not lift product photographs, screenshots or logos.

Where AI is used

We use software, including AI tools, to gather documentation, extract figures, draft text and check pages against this policy. Nothing is published on the strength of what a model remembers. Every factual claim has to trace to a document that was actually fetched, and the build refuses to publish a piece whose listed sources are not linked in its text.

Keeping pages current

Each page carries a review date. When a maker ships a new release we re-check the pages that name the old one, and we re-date them whether or not anything changed, so you can see the check happened. A page we can no longer stand behind is corrected or removed rather than left up.

Corrections

If a page is wrong, tell us at contact@rackbrief.com. Corrections to a fact are made as soon as we have checked them, and the page's checked date is updated so the change is visible.

RackBrief is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no say in what is written, which software is recommended, or what a table says. If affiliate links are ever used, they will be labelled at the top of the page that carries them.
